Emulators For iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad: Everything You Need To Know [How To]

Back when jailbreaking the iPhone and iPod Touch was beginning to gain popularity one of the big things a lot of people were into was emulators. Nowadays it seems like, however, that a lot of people have forgotten about emulators. There are all sorts of emulators available in the Cydia Installer for the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad such as psx4all (PlayStation 1), snes4iPhone (Super Nintendo), psx4iPhone (PlayStation 1), n64iphone (Nintendo 64), genesis4iphone (Sega Genesis), gpSPhone (Gameboy Advance) and many more! With these emulators you can play all time classics such as Super Mario, Harvest Moon, Twisted Metal, Resident Evil, Crash Bandicoot, Zelda, Pokemon and so many other games that are sure to bring back memories.

iJailbreak.com is going to start bringing back these emulators for iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad thanks to recent updates and new releases from ZodTTD (who is ZodTTD?), and is even going to show you how to setup the emulators so you can experience hours of enjoyment playing these classic games.

BIOS Note:

psx4all requires a BIOS file scph1001.bin.

Once you have a legal backup of your PSX BIOS, name it scph1001.bin
making sure it’s all lowercase and place it in: /var/mobile/Media/ROMs/PSX/

PCE Engine/TurboGrafx-16

Have you ever heard of the TurboGrafx-16 game console? If you answered no, you were in the same boat as us! In fact I even had to do a little research before I wrote this post. Any how, the TurboGrafx-16 game console was actually a big hit in Japan and was  released on October 30th, 1987 and then it was released in North America on August 29th, 1989.

If you are a tech minded person this console featured an 8-bit CPU and a dual 16-bit GPU; furthermore, it is capable of displaying 482 colors at once out of 512. Why do you care about this now ancient game console? Well it turns out that a developer who goes by the name of Robert Broglia has released an emulator (PCE Engine/TurboGrafx-16 Emulator) of this game console for the iOS firmware. If you are one of those iPhone users who enjoy emulating games you may want to check this new emulator out.

Apparently this emulator runs at about 60fps on an iPhone 4, and as long as you have a newer iDevice it should run very smooth! While the emulator itself does not come with any ROMS, you can easily find some available through the magic of Google. Some game titles for the turbografx-16 game console include:

  • Bomberman
  • SplatterHouse
  • Falcon
  • Knight Rider Special
  • And many more

If you are interested in this game console it is available through Cydia for a price of $3.99! While this may seem on the pricier side, remember that technically you are getting a full game console for under $4.
