This last one now has a mobile app compatible with iOS and Android, available at both the App Store and Play Store respectively – Google didn’t forget to release a desktop version through a Chrome browser extension either.

At first rumored to be named Babel (or Babble), Hangouts unifies all Google messaging platforms including Google+ and Gtalk. It lets you send photographs, start video chats, as well as send text messages to your contacts on Google. Once you launch the app, you’ll be promoted to a window where you will have to sign in with your Gmail account.

Hangouts has a pretty simple interface: white and grey with a “+” icon that enables you to start a conversation with one of your contacts, and a settings option. This may not sound like much, but the key aspect of Hangouts is that unification of services previously mentioned. You won’t have to swap apps to start or resume conversation.

On android, Hangouts replaces Gtalk, so if you like that one better I would advise you to stay away from Google’s new app. I’ve got the Galaxy S3 mini and regret installing Hangouts – I used to like Gtalk better. The problem I see with Hangouts is that it doesn’t show online contacts, Gtalk’s key aspect.

I’m jealous to know that U.S. users will be able to subscribe to Google Play Music All Access for less than $8 a month before the end of June (it will normally cost $10). In the UK, Spotify Premium costs $7 extra a month and doesn’t even let you add your personal cloud library, like Google does – that’s 20,000 songs, plus all you can eat “paid” streaming tracks.

Who knows when All Access will be available for the rest of the 11 countries where Google Play Music already exists. That’s Australia, Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Portugal, Spain and United Kingdom, according to Google’s website.

The good news is that “the search giant” didn’t forget all of us who live outside the United States. Google updated Play Music’s app for Android and changed the interface completely.

For starters, Play Music has now an orange/white background, instead of the black/purple/white design included in the previous version. The carousel effect when in landscape mode has disappeared, but artists now have a profile picture at the top of their respective discography (which is a very nice touch).

Google also included a new sidebar with tabs like Library, Playlists, Radio (for All Access users) and a shortcut to the music section at the Play Store, so you can purchase songs more easily. Overall, Play Music now looks like a store instead of a radical music player. Still, I’m quite pleased with the change although I wish Google would have kept the iPod-touch-like carousel function.

Bigarella has just released an application called Balances that is an extremely simple finance app with a minimalistic interface you are sure to love. Using Balances you can quickly take note of the money you owe to your friend or of the credit they owe you.

Balances was designed to replace those sticky notes and makes the task of remembering how much money you owe your friend or how much they owe you simple.

Bigarella describes how the application functions below:

You can add debts or credits using the two main buttons: once one of them has been completed, you can swipe on it to the right to mark it as such. Never mind, though: you can always put it back on your list from the “Completed” section, by just swiping it to the left.

For every credit / debt, you can specify the amount of money and the person you have the credit / debt with. Additionally, you may want to add a brief description of every balance. You can also edit those details later by keeping a balance pressed from the main list.

Today we dive into probably one of the most polished Apple TV concepts we have ever seen. It was created by an individual by the name of Sam Beckett and it showcases what might be possible if Apple did ever release an iTV of sorts. In the video an Apple TV is shown being controlled by an iPad and features such as swiping between channels, scheduling recording, interactive TV guides and Siri integration are demoed.

It really is an impressive concept video to say the least and makes you hope that Apple really is working on revolutionizing the television.

The same thing happened in 2011 when both Google and Apple were rumored to release cloud storage services and Google also beat the fruit company, announcing theirs first.

The last thing we heard about Apple’s proposed iRadio service was that it was going to be released in the Summer as long as Apple could finalize a deal with label execs. Apple was rumored to of initially been offering labels 6 cents per 100 songs streamed, which is about half as much paid by Pandora. Now, however, it was rumored that in order to start moving things along Apple has bumped up its offer to 12 cents per hundred songs streamed and also a small portion of its ad profits.

If you are wondering just how Google was able to release its music streaming service first, The Verge has the answer. They wrote an in-depth article on just how Google was able to reach a licensing deal with major record labels before the fruit company.

How was Google able to secure deals for All Access, which was unveiled at Google I/O on Wednesday, while Apple has been stymied? For starters, Google chose to offer a standard subscription music service very similar to those built by Spotify and Rdio, and that meant the terms had largely been established, according to multiple sources close to the talks. Apple, on the other hand, is pioneering a hybrid web and radio service — one that resembles Pandora but melds it with some on-demand features, the sources said. The licensing agreement had to be created from scratch.

The article also mentioned that another thing Google had going for itself was that it was willing to pay advances to some of the major copyright owners. Typically Apple has a long history of refusing to pay advances and — at least initially — didn’t offer any.

If Apple wants to unveil a music streaming service at the WWDC 2013 it certainly better get its act into gear. Right now the only major label that has signed with Apple is Universal and that means Sony, Warner and BMG are still waiting to be offered a more lucrative deal.

The LSFlatAlerts Cydia tweak simply makes it so that all notifications on the lockscreen appear in the flat list view. This means you will no longer have a singular notification appear in a dialog box on the lockscreen, the experience will be consistent.

Although it is only a subtle change it is sure to please a lot of people.

Sure enough today NewsChannel5 is reporting that the winner of Apple’s $10,000 App Store gift card has been chosen. Meet Brandon Ashmore, a 21 year old resident of Mentor, Ohio, who reportedly waited until Wednesday night to go on a downloading spree so that he would have a better chance of winning the contest.

He saved up about five apps to download on his iPhone 5 Wednesday night to try to win the contest and the app that ended up winning it for him was Say the Same Thing by Space Inch.

Like all the winners of these App Store gift cards, he thought it was a prank when an Apple representative called him. But Ashmore said the caller had too much information about him for it not to be real. The company has been on a role lately releasing brand new products and upgrading existing products. In June the unbelievably slim Willow Glass was unveiled and who could forget the Gorilla Glass 3 announcement at CES 2013. The company isn’t done innovating just yet though, Corning has announced today the commercial launch of Corning Lotus XT.

When Corning’s Lotus glass was initially introduced in 2011 it promised to be a thin high performance display, but because it was so advanced it wasn’t easy to build with the volumes or features that customers wanted. With the new Corning Lotus XT glass, however, clients can produce it more reliably at high temperatures, leading to more usable panels for our LCDs and OLEDs.

Engadget explains “The improved yields should not only result in larger device volumes than the original Lotus Glass could muster, but push the technological limits — Corning notes that hotter manufacturing allows for brighter, sharper and more efficient screens.”

Although the glass is available commercially starting today it will be some time before we see devices shipped with the new Lotus XT glass. Nevertheless it is an exciting announcement that will make already extraordinary displays on mobile devices even better.

The folks over at Trusted Reviews have figured out that when BlackBerry launches BBM for iOS it will only be for iPhone and iPod Touch owners. If you have an Android tablet, rather than an iPad, you will also be disappointed because it will only be coming to Android smartphones initially.

“At this point it is iOS and Android, and that’s iOS phones running iOS 6 and higher,” Vivek Bhardwaj, Head of the BlackBerry Software Portfolio said. He further went on to add “Smartphone is our real focus and again it comes back to what BBM is. If you look BBM and the engagement and the activity, it’s because it is mobile, because people are on the go.”

Bhardwaj does have a point, the messaging experience does change when you are on a tablet compared to a smartphone.

Not all is dark and dismal for tablet owners wanting BBM, however, Bhardwaj didn’t say BBM wouldn’t be coming for tablets, but rather it could face a bit of a wait. “When you start looking at tablets, computers and other screens, the usage model changes and behaviour changes. For us right now the absolute focus is getting BBM onto smartphones.”

On another note Bhardwaj also hinted that BBM could be rolled out across all manner of connected devices, with the automotive industry and even Smart TVs two areas currently being explored.

Well, the good news is you can! Obviously no one knows how far Jony Ive will take iOS 7 in terms of reducing skeuomorphism and making the operating system, as a whole, more flat, but this new theme I recently discovered called FlatIcons gives you a good idea of how it might look.

FlatIcons is a very well done theme that is on par with well-known themes such as Ayecon. There is auto-app skinning, 750 hand-rendered icons, Retina support and much more. FlatIcons will dramatically alter the appearance of your iPhone or iPod Touch, reducing skeuomorphic elements and making the entire operating system more flat.

There is a skinned Phone dialler, Auxo theme, lockscreen theme and pre-made wallpapers that can be download from the FlatIcons official website. Unfortunately besides the phone dialler there are no other app skins, such as for the Calculator app and Music app, but hopefully this will come in a future update.

What is kind of neat is that there is a secondary theme that can make your app icons square instead of round, which gives it an almost Windows 8 like appearance. If you want the keyboard to match the FlatIcons theme then you can even download the free Color Keyboard theme called FlatIcons ColorKeyboard.

I usually don’t keep themes installed very long, but I am going to make an exception for FlatIcons. If you are interested in the WinterBoard theme you can find it in the ZodTTD & MacCiti repo for only $0.99. It really is a steal of a deal.

I have briefly had a chance to play around with it and it is a wonderful addition to iTunes that you will be sure to enjoy. It actually reminds me of the MiniPlayer Cydia tweak that we previously covered here on iJailbreak that adds a similar looking MiniPlayer to iOS.

Among other things you will find an improved song view allowing you to enjoy album artwork while in the Songs view along with proper multi-disc album support. Then there is of course your stereotypical performance and stability improvements.

A new application is currently being developed though called Semi-Restore that will allow you to do a clean semi-restore to the firmware version you are currently running. This means if you want to restore your iPhone 5 back to iOS 6.1.2 you could do a semi-restore (it cannot be a full restore as this would force an update) and essentially run a clean version of iOS 6.1.2 again.

If your device is running slow then doing a semi-restore back to the current firmware version it is running could be what it needs. Best of all you don’t even have to have saved SHSH blobs or APTickets.

All the Semi-Restore requires is:

• 5-10 minutes of your time!
• A computer running Windows or Mac OS X
• OpenSSH and APT 0.7 Strict (NOT THE LIB) installed on your device
• An SSH client on your computer (USB version coming soon)

It is important to keep in mind that this will not downgrade your device, but as mentioned previously, semi-restore it back to the firmware version it is currently running for a clean slate.

The last concept we shared with you was by none other than Martin Hajek. He had created a new budget iPhone rendering and integrated a user interface concept by Dámaso Benítez to show us what a handset would look like running iOS 7.

It was well done to say the least.

Now another 3D artist by the name of Jürgen Ulbrich has shared a concept of what he thinks the iPhone 5S would look like running iOS 7. All we are shown in this particular concept is the lockscreen on the iPhone 5S, but Ulbrich threw in some things we haven’t seen before. Check out the video for yourself below:

Today this changes, however, as BGR has apparently gotten their hands on high-quality images of several internal iPhone 5S components from a source that asked not to be identified. The parts in question are the loud-speaker bracket, ear speaker bracket, vibrating motor assembly, Wi-Fi flex cable ribbon and SIM card tray.

If these images are to be believed authentic then the iPhone 5S is going to see a significant internal redesign compared to its predecessor.  As the iPhone 5S is rumored to feature a fingerprint scanner and a capitative home button this shouldn’t come as a surprise.

The first image shown below is something we have actually already seen leaked previously — the vibrating motor assembly. You notice, however, that this image obtained by BGR is of much higher quality.

The next image is of the re-designed ear speaker bracket and a new loud-speaker bracket, shown successively below.

Next up is the iPhone 5S’ new Wi-Fi flex cable ribbon, could it feature AC Wi-Fi support?

The last iPhone 5S component photos that BGR has obtained is photos of two different SIM card trays from Apple’s iPhone 5S. The proposed SIM tray of the iPhone 5S has actually been leaked int the past, but they were of low quality. You will notice that they are thinner than the trays from the current-generation iPhone 5 and one tray also appears to be golden or beige in color, which could support earlier rumors suggesting that the iPhone 5S will be available in several new colors.

The actual release date of the iPhone 5S is unknown. Some have predicted it will be at the WWDC 2013, but most believe it will be slated for release in September or October.

Anytime you would like to search for an Artist, Song or Application all users have to do is swipe up or down on the appropriate iOS application on the home screen and start typing. This feature is an easy and useful one to have.

The last Velox plugin is called Calculator for Velox developed by Maxhasadhd. The add-on allows users to reveal a simple calculator interface within a folder without having to open up the application. It’s important to note that this add-on is a basic calculator and does not support the scientific calculator mode. However, I still think it provides an easy way to pop up a calculator for most peoples daily needs.

All the plugins are free to download if users already have Velox installed which can be found in the BigBoss and ModMyi repos. Apple promised a $10,000 App Store gift card to the person who downloaded the 50 billionth app and $500 to those who download the next 50 apps. The winners haven’t been announced as of yet, but the page will be soon updated to reveal the name of that one lucky person who gets to take home the $10,000 App Store gift card. It doesn’t matter if the 50 billionth app is paid or free and anyone, from 155 countries where the App Store is available, can participate.

This is all about to change though thanks to the Googiri Cydia tweak.

The  Googiri Cydia tweak allows you to use Google’s Search app as your personal assistant and extends its functionality to  work with Siri. For example, if you said “What’s the weather like outside” through Google Now you would get your stereotypical Google Now result. If you said “Hey Siri, What’s the weather like outside” though, then Siri would initiate rather than Google Now and take over the query.

Any query that you prepend with Siri will result in Siri taking over Google Now in the processing of your command.

When you say functions that can only be handled by Siri such as “remind me to do something in half an hour” the query will automatically be routed to Siri instead. And if for some reason you wanted to disable Google Now in completely and have all queries still be handled through the Google Search app, but be processed through Siri then there is a setting for that as well.

The first is Google Play Music All Access. The services essentially works like Spotify and Rdio, letting users stream songs on-demand to their computer or Android device and it is built atop of Google’s already already-existing music store for Google Play. There is a recommendation engine as well that will guide users towards new music they may not have already discovered.

One thing unique about Google Play Music All Access compared to already existing services is that it incorporates both local tracks and those available for streaming into one master searchable library. Unlike a lot of Google’s services which are free, Google Play Music All Access will be priced at $9.99 a month with a 30-day free trial. If you start your trial by June 30th though, your monthly fee will run just $7.99.

Apple has long been rumored to release a music streaming service and it looks like Google has beat them to the punch.

The next service that Google announced is Hangouts. We previously covered Hangouts on iJailbreak.com with its rumored name ‘Babel’. It looks like the search engine giant decided against the name, however, and have went ahead to make Hangouts a cross-platform messaging system that will take the place of Google+ Messenger, Google Talk,  Google+ Hangout video chat, and various other Google services.

Hangouts is essentially a messaging app that will be similar to WhatsApp, offering a unified chat experience across all devices. It has all the features you would expect of a chat client with a lot of Google flare. It is available right now in both the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store.

The last service Google has announced is Google Play Game Services. This services is essentially Game Center for Android, but you should think of it more like OpenFeint. It will be compatible with both iOS and Android and will include backend support for developers rather than just being a standalone application.

With Google Play Game Services you can sign in using your Google+ login in-game, and that login will track your identity (including leaderboard scores, achievements and saves) across various games and devices. A handful of games are getting game services updates today, including Super Stickman Golf 2 and World of Goo, though we expect many more to pop up in the coming months.

We will keep you guys updated if anything else exciting happens at Google I/O 2013, but for the time being this is all.

This particular glitch actually allows you to add spaces between apps on the homescreen, essentially granting you functionality of tweaks like GridLock on non-Jailbroken devices. AppAdvice stated “[the method for performing the glitch] is pretty interesting and we were amazed upon discovering it. At first, it took a while to figure out how to duplicate the results, but we’ve put together a method that’s very straight forward.”

They have tested it on all iOS devices running iOS 6 and higher and it works without hiccups. The process isn’t very complicated, but it is a little long. It is probably best explained in their video overview that you can watch below.

It’s a pretty cool trick,huh?

You are able to repeat the process as many times as you like to create a desired layout. The blank spaces that you create work just like apps and you can adjust its location by repositioning apps around it.

One thing to keep in mind with this little trick is that once you have used an app to create a space, it will not be allowed back on that homescreen page. If you perform the trick with the Calculator app on the first homescreen page, for example, it will not be allowed back on the first homescreen page. As such, make sure you use apps you don’t want to appear on the page you perform the trick on.  And like most of these iOS glitches, rebooting your device will cause the layout to return back to normal.

According to the official Frostbite website:

One of our most exciting current projects is called Frostbite Go, a mobile division empowering EA game developers with Frostbite’s proven excellent workflows and features to bring true Frostbite experiences to all major mobile platforms.

As of right now we don’t know much about FrostbiteGo besides that it is currently under development and the internal name for the team behind it is also called Frostbite Go.

Right now EA is also working on Frostbite 3, which will be the engine used to power next-generation titles such as Battlefield 4.

It looks like the gaming company has its hands full at the moment, but bringing the frostbite engine to iOS and Android is certainly a smart move considering how big a market it is.
