How To: Install XBMC on Apple TV 2G

January 22, 2011 by Guest 12 Comments

This iJailbreak.com How To tutorial will show you how to install the latest XBMC on your Apple TV 2G.

SUPPORTED DEVICES:
Apple TV 2G

OS(s) NEEDED:
Computer: Mac OS X (Windows support coming soon)
Apple TV 2: iOS 4.1+

PROGRAMS REQUIRED:
Seas0nPass

HARDWARE REQUIRED:
Apple TV 2

STEP 1: Jailbreak your Apple TV 2G
This can be accomplished by using Seas0nPass. For a guide on how to use Seas0nPass, click here.

STEP 2: SSH to the root of your Apple TV 2 using Terminal
To open Terminal, navigate to your Applications folder, open Utilities, and double click on Terminal. Once Terminal is open, type: ‘ssh root@apple-tv.local' . When prompted for a password, use “alpine”, the default password. If you changed your root password, use it instead.
*Note*: If ‘ssh root@apple-tv.local' doesn’t work, use your Apple TV’s local IP address instead.

STEP 3: Install XBMC
Paste the following commands into Terminal one by one:

echo "deb http://mirrors.xbmc.org/apt/atv2 ./" > /etc/apt/sources.list.d/xbmc.list

apt-get update

apt-get install org.xbmc.xbmc-atv2
