How To: Jailbreak iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad On OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion With RedSn0w

July 25, 2012 by Jaden Easton-Ellett Leave a Comment

Earlier today we told you that the iPhone Dev-Team mentioned on their official blog that the latest version of RedSn0w is indeed compatible with OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion. There is only one slight difference with the way RedSn0w needs to be launched on Mountain Lion due to the implementation of Gatekeeper. This will eventually be taken care of in a future update once the iPhone Dev-Team are able to obtain an official Apple Developer ID for RedSn0w. In the meantime you will need to launch RedSn0w using a keyboard shortcut explained in this guide on Jailbreaking your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad with RedSn0w on Mountain Lion.

How To Jailbreak On OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion

Note: In this guide I am assuming you will either be Jailbreaking an A4 or A5 iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad on the iOS 5.1.1 firmware untethered. If you are not then you may want to check out our How To Jailbreak Section, but follow Step 2 for launching RedSn0w on Mountain Lion.

Jailbreak On OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion

Step 1) – The first thing you will need to do is download the latest version of RedSn0w, which at the time of writing this article is RedSn0w v0.9.14b2. You can download RedSn0w from the iJailbreak Downloads Section or from one of the direct links shown below.

Download RedSn0w 0.9.14b2 (Mac OS X)

Download RedSn0w 0.9.14b2 (Windows)

Step 2) – With RedSn0w downloaded you will need to Ctrl-Click-Open the RedSn0w app. This will only need to be done the first time you launch RedSn0w. Once you open it using the Ctrl-Click-Open method, Gatekeeper will learn to trust RedSn0w and it can be launched normally.

Step 3) – Now that you have RedSn0w up and running on your Mac computer running OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion you can follow one of the corresponding guides shown below skipping to step 3 for Windows and step 2 for Mac.
