Cydia’s And Evasi0n’s Servers Overloaded
Following the release of Evasi0n after many months of waiting for an iOS 6 jailbreak, there are a few bugs as mentioned in a previous article. Server overloads are not bugs, let me just point out, but they amount to the same thing. When I first reached evasi0n.com within the minute of release, its servers were already clogged up and out of use. Google would not let me download the ‘attachment’. I was pretty annoyed, although then I realized a few minutes later, that there were mirror links below it to Mega, Rapidshare and Box. The Evad3rs had obviously anticipated heavy downloads, and their anticipation was necessary, and definitely served its purpose.
As PlanetBeing has been tweeting, they have gone through 4.2 terabytes just on the Box.net mirror. Just think about all of the bandwidth added together for the mirrors and the official link!
Saurik also went through precautions to prepare Cydia for the huge number of users about to use it. Although Saurik did his best to ready Cydia for the aftermath of the untethered jailbreak, it was to no avail, as most if not all of the packages and sources were unable to download, as many users including me found out a few short minutes after Evasi0n’s release. On my iPad Mini (the only iOS device I am lucky enough to own) I was greeted with errors upon trying to download FullForce, “HTTP:/1.1 500 Internal Server Error” and “Size mismatch” amongst a few others.
I am sure as Cydia’s and major repositories servers become less busy, users will be able to access Cydia packages and sources. Have you experienced any errors with Cydia? If so, let us know what errors in the comments!
