iPhone Dev Team Releases RedSn0w 0.9.14b1 To Downgrade iPhone 3GS/3G Baseband 06.15.00 [Mac/Windows]

Finally, a downgrade baseband option for the iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS users, who are stuck on the iPad baseband 06.15.00 is now out. The iPhone Dev-Team has released a new version of the famous jailbreak tool RedSn0w (RedSn0w 0.9.14b1), which features a new option to downgrade your baseband.

Why would you want to do that? Well, until now, the only way to unlock your iPhone 3G or iPhone 3GS was using UltraSn0w and upgrading to the iPad baseband 06.15.00. However, this caused instability and certain problems for the iPhone 3G/iPhone 3GS users, as their GPS did not function and they couldn’t use stock IPSW. Users can now downgrade to baseband 05.13.04, retain the unlock and not face any issues. MuscleNerd did indicate earlier that a Sunday launch was imminent, and here we are.

The iPhone Dev Team is happy to announce a baseband downgrade option in redsn0w for those who are using the iPad’s 06.15 baseband on the iPhone3G or iPhone3GS.

Typically you’d have the 06.15 baseband if you unlock with ultrasn0w but updated your iPhone baseband past 05.13.04.  With this new capability, you can now downgrade specifically from 06.15 to 05.13.04 (even if you never had 05.13.04 on that device before).  This gives you the best of both worlds: ultrasn0w compatibility and a normal iPhone baseband with full GPS and the ability to use stock IPSWs again.

Here are the steps:

  1. Use the “Extras->Select IPSW” button in redsn0w to tell it which firmware version you have installed (new-bootrom 3GS users can usually skip this step but it doesn’t hurt for them to do it too).
  2. Do a controlled shutdown of your iPhone (“slide to power off”).  This step is very important to avoid mount problems when the ramdisk is running!
  3. Go back to the first screen and click “Jailbreak”.  Enable the “Downgrade from iPad baseband” checkbox, disable Cydia if you already have it installed, and click Next to proceed through the normal DFU ramdisk steps.

After the ramdisk gets launched and you see the Pwnapple running on your iPhone, you’ll eventually get to the “Flashing Baseband” step.  THIS STEP TAKES A VERY LONG TIME to complete and there won’t be any feedback while its running.  Please just let it be for the next 3-8 minutes!  When the ramdisk has done its job it will reboot the phone on its own.

For those who are wondering if you can update your 3G or 3GS to 06.15 solely for the purposes of downgrading to 05.13.04, the answer is “yes” for 3G owners, and “maybe” for 3GS owners.  The iPad baseband is not compatible with 3GS units manufactured week 34 of 2011 or later.  If you have an iPhone3GS and if digits 3-5 of its Serial Number are 134 or later (xx134…), then you should NOT try to install the 06.15 baseband on your 3GS!  It will brick your radio, preventing both the downgrade from working and normal iPhone software from using it as a phone!  Be warned!

This is some pretty good news for the iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS users. You can download RedSn0w 0.9.14b1 from the iJailbreak Downloads Section or from the direct links below:

my serial number is xx031 (week 31 of 2000). I am currently on 6.15 baseband. I have tried to downgrade about 5 times ( 3 times in windows 7 and 2 times in windows xp) .. but still its showing 6.15 baseband. the downgrade progress bar always stops midway at the pwnapple screen where it says flashing baseband (dont interrupt). it remains there for arund 4 to 5 minutes and then within a second the progress bar reaches around 90 percent and shows some text (in the same place where the above text is shown) for a fraction of a second and then reboots. but it still wakes up with 6.15 and no signal. i then reflashed the 6.15 baseband with redsnow to get my towers back.

I am currently in ios 4.3.3 and using roqybt4 and garmin gps logger to compensate for the gps problem. but still its a load to carry a gps logger all the time.

it would be great to have my gps back on my iphone…. thanks to musclenerd .. hopefully i will also be able to fix mine like others

I tried downgrading multiple times but it didn’t work and was still showing baseband 06.15.00 but I had lost all cellular service so I tried to restore the iphone to a backup and now am getting the message that there is no SIM card installed.

    Any help would be appreciated.

I can’t seem to get it to work.  I followed the instructions but all I get is “Exploit Failed” and it doesn’t do anything.

  • Chivalryx

Finally got it to work after trying it nearly 10 times!  I redid a tethered jailbreak with redsn0w, then ran the downgrade again.  If you get the “Rocky Racoon is already installed” error, unplug the phone, hit the jailbreak button, then plug the phone in after it’s done the kernal hash and continue with the instructions.

  • Abraham Richart

Yes you would… But you have to think that if you need an unlock in the lastest iOS6 you wont be able to do it
