How To: Jailbreak iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS Untethered On iOS 5.0.1 Using RedSn0w 0.9.10b1 [Windows]

The time has finally come when Pod2G’s Untethered exploit has been worked into a public Jailbreaking solution dubbed RedSn0w 0.9.10b1. In this specific how to guide from iJailbreak.com you will learn how to Jailbreak the iPhone 4 or iPhone 3GS untethered running iOS 5.0.1 using RedSn0w 0.9.10b1 on Windows.

Note #1: If you are already Jailbroken tethered on the iOS 5.0.1 firmware you may want to use the Corona 5.0.1 Untether Cydia package instead. More information is available here.

Note #2: This is not the iPhone 4S Untethered Jailbreak

How To Use RedSn0w 0.9.10b1

Step 1) – Download RedSn0w 0.9.10b1 for the Windows operating system using the download mirror below or through the iJailbreak Downloads Section.

Download RedSn0w 0.9.10b1 (Windows)

Download RedSn0w 0.9.10b2 (Windows)

Step 2) - Once you have downloaded RedSn0w you will need to launch it by first right clicking on the RedSn0w.exe file and clicking the Run as Administrator option.

Step 3) – With RedSn0w running you will need to click the Jailbreak button.

Step 4) – After clicking the Jailbreak button you will come to a screen where you will need to put your iPhone into DFU mode. Read through and follow the instructions presented to you which is to plug in and power off your iPhone and click then next button when you are ready to begin the DFU mode process.

Step 5) – When you click the next button you will need to follow the instructions presented to you in real-time to put your iPhone into DFU mode.

  • Hold down Power (corner) button for 5 seconds.
  • Without releasing the Power button, also hold down the Home (bottom center) button along with the Power button for 10 seconds.
  • Without releasing the home button, stop holding down the power button for up to 15 seconds.

Step 6) – After you successfully enter DFU mode RedSn0w will begin preparing your iPhone for the iOS 5.0.1 Untethered Jailbreak.

Step 7) - Once RedSn0w has finished preparing your iPhone for the iOS 5.0.1 Untethered Jailbreak you will be asked you to specify options to go along with your Jailbreak. If you are simply re-jailbreaking your iPhone that is running the iOS 5.0.1 firmware jailbroken tethered then you will want to uncheck the install Cydia option. On the flip side, if this is your first time Jailbreaking your iPhone running the iOS 5.0.1 firmware then you will want to make sure you have the install Cydia option checked.

Step 8 ) - After you have specified your Jailbreak options you can click the next button and RedSn0w 0.9.10b1 will begin jailbreaking your iPhone. DO NOT interrupt or use the computer during this time. When your iPhone is finished being jailbroken it will reboot into an untethered state.

Step 9) – To ensure that this iOS 5.0.1 Untethered Jailbreak worked you will need to power off your iPhone and then power on your iPhone and wait for it to reboot itself. If your iPhone reboots into a usable state then this Untethered iOS 5.0.1 Jailbreak worked!

Troubleshooting: If you are having troubles using RedSn0w 0.9.10b1 to Jailbreak your iPhone Untethered on the iOS 5.0.1 firmware, we suggest you try the PwnageTool 5.0.1 or restore to the iOS 5.0.1 firmware and try Jailbreaking your iPhone fresh using RedSn0w 0.9.10b1 again.

    its simple. make sure you’re on ios5.0.1 and then download and run redsnow. follow the instruction that redsnow says. if it doesnt work… try again, maybe u messed up. also, it will not work with any ios other then ios 5.0.1 (check your iphone ios in itunes or on your phone in the settings). also, its NOT for 4s…

    iphone 4 with gevey JB with redsn0w 0.9.10b5c, after some time, the phone is rebooting itself 3-4 times per day, could not restore as i could not activate without original SIM, any help would very much appreciated. Thank you

    same issue as many others writing here. iphone 3gs with firmware/baseband 06.15 ios 5.0.1. redn0w fails to run exploit and i am also unable to restore to a custom ios 5.0.1.

    I was able to jailbreak my iPhone 4 (5.0.1) and everything was working as it should UNTIL…. I found a security app, which I thought was a going to be a wonderful security measure for all my information, however, once I downloaded and rebooted the phone, Cydia, Installous, Crackulous, Safari, all the apps I downloaded and installed since jailbreaking my phone will work.  When I click them the screen just sort of blinks, like it wants to open but can’t.  I believe my iOS tried to update before it would let me install the antivirus app, which, by the way, I do not remember the name of.  I do know that it was in the Cydia program and I believe it was under Security or maybe it was All.  I downloaded so much, it’s hard to remember.  Anyway, if anyone knows how to correct this, please let me know.  I tried to restore my phone using my last backup in iTunes but that didn’t work.  I even tried to re-jailbreak the phone and that told me I would have to reboot tethered which I DO NOT WANT TO DO.  Im about to restore factory settings to my phone but it would be helpful – for anyone else who may have experienced this issue or for myself if in the future I download something else that causes the same issue.  Thanks for all that you do.

    you can, but you have to update to 6.15.00.
    Google 3gs 6.15.00 jailbreak.
    But I’m telliing you now, it’s not worth it. We still have to wait for a decent solution

I am planning to follow ur video..I downloaded redsn0w_win_0.9.10b3..My question is “Do I need to download the firmware as well?”..After upgrading will my Push Notifications work. My main reason to upgrade is the push notifications..I dont get notifications from my FB or Whatsapp even though I have enabled Notifcation and allowed notifications for these apps..

    so after entering dfu mode it says waiting for reboot & my phone rebooted but nothing happens. it keeps saying waiting for reboot. any suggestions?

    I followed the following steps, my iphone ran many scripts and rebooted for couple of times.. Then it went to recovery mode and it didnt come out of that..I googled for coming out of recovery mode. For this i need to connect my iphone to my laptop. But after the jailbreak program ran, the laptop stopped recognizing the iphone (I tried all the usb ports)..When I went and checked the Device manager, all the drivers are in yellow color (Warning symbol). I am not able to connect any device to my laptop. Please help!!!

    hey i did a tethered jailbreak on my 3gs 5.0.1 and im trying to make it untethered but when i do it it doesn’t do it what do i need to do i was trying to restore it but it wants to update also and i dont want to update it and i tried to restore by shift and restore but 3194 and cant get passed that help please. I also tried looking for corona but couldnt find it anymore any help please.
