How To Unlock iOS 5.0.1, 5.0 On iPhone 4, 3GS, 3G (04.26.08 – 06.15.00, 01.59.00) Using UltraSn0w 1.2.5 [UPDATED]

October 14, 2011 by Jaden Easton-Ellett 191 Comments

If you are hoping to unlock your iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 3G on the official iOS 5, iOS 5.0.1 firmware, you are in luck. The Dev-Team have released a new version of UltraSn0w (UltraSn0w 1.2.4 / 1.2.5) which supports unlocking the following basebands:

  • 4.26.08 (iPhone 3GS/3G)
  • 05.11.07 (iPhone 3GS/3G)
  • 05.12.01 (iPhone 3GS/3G)
  • 05.13.04 (iPhone 3GS/3G)
  • 06.15.00  (Special iPad Baseband)
  • 01.59.00 (iPhone 4)

To find out if you have one of the basebands specified above you will need to go into the Settings.app > General > About and look for the Modem Firmware field. If your iPhone is running one of the baseband specified above you can successfully unlock your iPhone on the official iOS 5, 5.0.1 firmware.

Note: In order to update to the official iOS 5, 5.0.1 firmware and still preserve your baseband so it is unlockable, you will need to follow our in-depth how to guide using RedSn0w. DO NOT under any circumstance update to iOS 5, 5.0.1 or you will update your baseband in the process. You will need to create a custom IPSW through RedSn0w or Sn0wBreeze.

Update #1: This article has been updated which now includes the iPhone 4 (01.59.00 baseband), iOS 5.0.1 firmware, and UltraSn0w 1.2.5.

Unlock iPhone 3G/3GS, iPhone 4 On iOS 5, 5.0.1

Step 1: As we noted above you must already be running the official iOS 5, 5.0.1 firmware on your iPhone, and you must also be jailbroken on iOS 5/5.0.1. If your iPhone is not jailbroken, follow our easy guides.

Step 2: After your iPhone is on iOS 5, 5.0.1 and is jailbroken you will need to simply launch Cydia from your SpringBoard.

Step 3: Once Cydia is up and running you will need to go into the Sources page. To go into the Sources page tap Manage followed by Sources.

Step 4: Typically, the UltraSn0w repo is included with Cydia. If not, tap the Edit button followed by the Add button and you will be prompted to add a URL source. Type:

http://repo666.ultrasn0w.com

Followed by tapping the Add Source button.

Step 5: Cydia will automatically refresh and update sources.

Step 6: After Cydia is done refreshing sources. Tap the Search tab on the bottom tab bar and search for UltraSn0w. Once UltraSn0w appears, tap on it and you should see version 1.2.4 / 1.2.5. Read through the description and tap the install button to install UltraSn0w 1.2.4 / 1.2.5 to your iPhone running iOS 5, 5.0.1.

Note: In case you are not familiar with UltraSn0w, it is a software unlock for your iPhone meaning you can use your iPhone with any carrier by simply inserting the SIM card.

Step 7: When UltraSn0w is installed you must restart your iPhone and run RedSn0w to boot tethered, you’re done!

If you have any questions, issues, or anything related to this article, let us know in the comments.

    Hi,

first thanks for the great work !

I have a 3gs which has been upgraded to ios5 via itunes. Going through the activation process, I got stuck. I the realized that the second had iphone I bought for my wife was unlocked and that I probably locked it with the upgrade.
After 5 hours of web surfing (knew nothing about iphones, I don’t use one…), I could jailbreak with redsn0w. I could use the 3gs but no carrier was found while the sim car was inserted. I then installed ultrasn0w to unlock it and booted with redsn0w. I have red the step by step very carefully and everything went according to the description but I still can’t find any carrier, it’s like if the sim car is missing. My baseband is 06.15.00.

Any idea what could have been going wrong ?

Re-flash your baseband using latest version of Redsn0w. Follow the instructions (it’s via the Jailbreak option) and don’t interrupt the process. Finally after it’s done, boot up as per normal tethered method.

I have an iphone 3Gs that I bought in Canada and it was unlocked there to bring to Portugal.
When it was upgraded to ios5 it  simply froze! But with redn0w jailbreak I was able to make it work again. The BIG problem now is that it is not able to find a carrier not matter what I do :( And it doesn’t even ask for the SIM card, and I am not able change those settings.
    My baseband is 06.15.00.

Please, can you help me fix it?

Hi, I had the same problems, but I fixed now! I have a 3gs 6.15.00 unlocked with t-mobile . First I made the mistake to upgraded to iOS5 with I tunes 10.5, then I jailbreked and unlocked, (several times and in different ways) but doesn´t find the carrier (no signal). Then I find the answers here, I download snowbrezze in the link in this page and the iOS 5 in here in this page too. Made my custom iOS5 file and install it. Did not activated, then I use redsnow to jailbrek it but i figure that probably my baseband has something wrong (6.15.00) so, when you choose to instal cydia, I also chose install iPad base band (6.15.00) To se if that fix it. After that The pineapple runing, but it takes a little bit longer, and then ultrasnow in the iphone. All the time with the t-mobile sim inside, and the it works, fin the signal-carrier.
If you´re stock without wettin’ work it, tray ir, more if you already have the 6.15.00 baseband. good luck!

Perhaps I am asking an obvious question, but I am stuck. I did all of the above and it seemed to work perfectly. Then I took it to T-mobile to get a sim card and we couldn’t get a wifi signal no matter what we tried. Now I am home again and I do get one, and I didn’t reboot, or change anything. What’s wrong?
Do I have to put a sim card in first? its a 3gs running 5.0., firmware 5.16.05.

there’s a special “trick” that iPhone3GS owners with baseband 06.15 need for iOS5. During the new setup screens you see when you start iOS5 for the first time, you’ll be asked about Location Services. Be sure to select “Disable Location Services” when asked! Later on in the setup, you’ll have the chance to turn on Location Services again when asked if you want to use “Find my iPhone”. It’s fine to turn it back on at that point, if that’s your desire (or you can always go in and enable it in Settings.app).

Okay I had the problem where my sim card was not being recognized, I followed these steps for the 5.0.1 update to jailbreak and unlock. I happened to update it via apple (which I regret and should have used a custom firmware, never use stock for unlockers right?) and I jailbroke it with redsn0w 0.9.8b8, I have the 6.15 baseband (ipad baseband) and cydia. I tried to use ultrasn0w which didn’t work. I read some of the comments and someone said something about using a custom ipsw. Since I don’t run an apple computer, I downloaded snowbreeze and created my custom ios5 but it did not recognize the 5.0.1 firmware so I used the 5.0 firmware (I have an old bootrom for 3gs) and followed those instructions and installed it and it actually reverted it back to 5.0 ios! I then ran ultrasnow again in vola! I now have service! I was panicking that i wouldn’t be able to use it again…

Also have 3GS and also updated to 5.0.1 using sn0wbreeze but unable to unlock it with ultrasn0w 1.2.4. A lot of people are having this issue too.
There are different suggestions out there, but none worked for me. I read this somewhere try this out may work for you:

If your phone is already jailbroken you need to jailbreak it again and reinstall baseband 6.15.00, than follow all the steps, the secret in make the 3G or 3GS work is to reinstall the baseband, after that all should work

Ok, i found a solution for me and i hope this work for other users:

    I have:
    3GS iphone
    BB 06.15.00

    – Remove the phone’s SIM CARD
    – Make the update from itunes to 5.0.1
    – When the update is completed don’t do anything on the iphone.
    – Download redsn0w and iPhone2,1_5.0_9A334_Restore.ipsw
    – Open redsn0w > Extras > Select IPSW and then select the .ipsw file
    – I have an old version so i just click “No” > back
    – Click Jailbreak
    – Click Cydia
    – Click install IPAD Baseband
    – Click Deactivate
_ Next and make the procedures of holding the buttons
    – Wait for the Jailbreak
    – When the iphone is back again put the SIM CARD again

Wait a few minutes and working.

    ;)

I have an old iPhone 3GS 16GB that is currently running iOS 4.3 ore something and has Baseband 6.15.00 and is unlocked using Ultrasnow. Now, I can unlock it at my carrier so I have no need for Ultrasnow. Can I just update it with iOS5.0.1 and this way “resetting” baseband to a “normal” iPhone baseband and the just go to my carrier and have it unlocked or will the phone stop working?

Most of you have the same problem: Baseband updated to 6.15.00 but still not able to connect to the network.(I also had the same until I found a link which fixes this (I tried and it worked for me): Here is what you can try:

    Guys i have a new method to fix ultrasnow on IOS 5.0.1Supported Basebands:01.59.0004.26.0805.11.0705.12.0105.13.0406.15.001) You need to a jailbroken iphone running IOS 5.0.12) Download iFunBox from the following link ( h t tp : / / d l . i – f u n b o x . c o m / i f u n b o x _ e n . z i p ) 3) Connect your iphone to your computer and run iFunBox.4) In iFunBox select you device and click on (Raw File System) from there you will have to navigate to System/Library/Frameworks/CoreTelephony.framework/Support Replace the file called CommCenterClassicsFor iphone 3GS here is the download link for the CommCenterClassics ( h t t p : / / w w w . m e d i a f i r e . c o m / ? 4 2 t d 0 4 4 k a 8 d h 0 2 a )For iphone 4 here is the download link for the CommCenterClassics (h t t p : / / w w w . m e d i a f i r e . c o m / ? s h 4 x r 6 g x 7 6 a c 3 k c )6) close iFunBox7) Go to your iphone and download ifile from cydia, when you finish installing open ifile and navigate to System/Library/Frameworks/CoreTelephony.framework/Support8) Click on the blue arrow next to CommCenterClassics.9) Under access permission you will find three things: User, Group, and Worldclick on User and check the following permission: Execute, Write, ReadClick on Group and check the following permission: Execute, ReadClick on World and check the following permission: Execute.10) Click Done and close ifile.11) go to cydia and install ultrasnow, reboot the devices and you are good to go, ultrasnow will now work on IOS 5.0.1Note: this method works with iphone 3GS and iphone 4 ( SUPPORTED BASEBAND ONLY)

    Hope this helps!

I have been trawling the internet and trying many many variations (very similar to yours below) but none of them worked. Yours has finally worked. I was always suspicious when all the sites said, “use the 5.0 ipsw, it will work”.  I know there has to be some files that are different. But I don’t know what they are or how to change them.  I have 15-20 hours invested in getting this done.

i have tried to jailbreak it and unlock it for the last 6 hours, however no matter what i do, i cannot get past the activation stage. I have tried to activate it on my 3 simcard, an old o2 simcard, wirelessly, and through itunes. None of these methods have worked for me.

    Hi,

Please help me in getting my phone unlocked. I have tried in many ways but last 4 days i am not able to use my phone. Below is the issue.

I had iphone 3gs unlocked with 4.3.3, it was working well with no issues.
Last Sunday i got an update in cydia in changes for mobile substrate, as usual i clicked ok to update it. but it went blank screen, and got stuck in apple logo.

With no option i restored it in itunes to 5.0.1, without preserving my baseband using snowbreeze, and i have jailbroken it with redsnow 0.9.10b3.
Now i have also installed ultrasnow 1.2.5 with wifi, as i dont have an option of using my cellular data.
But still not unlocked, please help me how to get my phone unlocked, waiting for your reply.

Now can i restore again with itunes with preserving with snowbreeze and jailbreak it again? will now my ultrasnow works?

    Thanks
    shash

My iphone 3Gs is officially unlocked. I was running iOS 4.3.3 which was great, I decided to update to iOS 5.0.1. I connected to iTunes then checked for updates after the update had finished,  I started to activate my phone selected English, Egypt, Enable location services ticked, wi-fi selected then activating your phone appears. It may take upto 3 minutes to activate your iPhone appers. After the three mins have elapsed I get, your iPhone could not be activated because the activation server is down, pls try later all the time it is showing no service.

The problem I was experiencing after I updated to iOS 5.0.1 is I cannot activate my phone and my sim card cannot be detected properly (no service), but my sim works fine when I use it in a different phone.

I was stuck in this so I jailbroke the iphone and now it is activated but no sim card – no service all the time.
When I go back to an earlier ios (4.3.3 or 4.1) I get the same issue (no sim card – no service)

I left the iPhone plugged into the computer via USB because I was busy with something else. I didn’t let it sleep – when it dimmed I touched the screen to waken it. After 5 – 10 minutes the iPhone screen suddenly displayed the firmware being downloaded.

    Hello how are you?

I bought my iPhone 3GS in Canada some months ago, and unlock it there so I can use here in Portugal.
After a while I upgraded and got the iPhone locked.
I tried to find a way to unlock it and I got the new version 5.0.1 and the new firmware 06.15.00.
My iphone was not working until I found this site with the following information:

    Iphone 3GS
    BB 06.15.00
    – Remove the phone’s SIM CARD
    – Make the update from itunes to 5.0.1
    – When the update is completed don’t do anything on the iphone.
    – Download redsn0w and iPhone2,1_5.0_9A334_Restore.ipsw
    – Open redsn0w > Extras > Select IPSW and then select the .ipsw file
    – I have an old version so i just click “No” > back
    – Click Jailbreak
    – Click Cydia
    – Click install IPAD Baseband
    – Click Deactivate
_ Next and make the procedures of holding the buttons
    – Wait for the Jailbreak
    – When the iphone is back again put the SIM CARD again
Wait a few minutes and working.

I did this several times, and it only worked when I did that but excluding “Click install IPAD Baseband”and “Click Deactivate” and with the Iphone in AIRPLANE MODE.

This week I connect the Iphone to Itunes and when I did Restore my Iphone blocked again.
I tried to do the same procedure but it never works.

Do you have any solution for me?

    – Make the update from itunes to 5.0.1
    – When the update is completed don’t do anything on the iphone.
    – Download redsn0w and iPHONE2,1_5.0_9A334_Restore.ipsw
    – Open redsn0w > Extras > Select IPSW and then select the .ipsw file
    – If you have an old version click “No” > back
    – Click Cydia_ Next and make the procedures of holding the buttons
    – Wait for the Jailbreak
    – When the iphone is back again put the SIM CARD again
Wait a few minutes. Hope it works for you

I jailbroke and unlocked using redsn0w 0.9.10b5 and Ultrasn0w 1.2.5 on my iPhone 3GS.  It boots fine, wifi works, and n about it recognises different carriers when I swap sim cards.  However, all the phone network shows is ‘searching’.. help?

Modem Firmware (is this baseband?) is 05.16.05

I have iPhone 3GS running OS Version 4.1 (8B117) and modem firmware 06.15.00

I am not sure whether this is hardware issue or a software, but my prepaid card network works with Idea, Cellone, vodafone only and other subscribers like Airtel, Uninor, Aircel, Videocon shows No Service – so these cards do not work with my iphone.

Any idea or clue? What can be done to resolve said issue?

    Thanks in advance :)

I have an iphone 3gs jailbroken and unlocked using 6.15.00 ipad baseband.  I used redsn0w 0.9.9b6 to jailbreak.  I’m wondering if I can rejailbreak with a newer version of redsn0w because I have read that the newer versions have fixed the battery issue.  I’m having a lot of trouble with my battery.  I tried upgrading to 5.0.1 and I wasn’t able to do it, I think I was using the wrong IPSW files.  I don’t even need to upgrade to 5.0.1.  I would just like to fix my battery problem.  Thanks.
