How To: Enable Hidden iOS Debug Settings On Non-Jailbroken Devices

March 10, 2012 by Jaden Easton-Ellett 2 Comments

Generally when one Jailbreaks their iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad it is to gain access to advanced system functions and of course to modify the way their iOS device works. Although 9 times out of 10 users need to Jailbreak their iOS device to bring new functionality to their device, there have always been workarounds for non-Jailbroken users to at least get a taste of the power of some functionality present when you Jailbreak.

An instance where this has indeed been the case is when it was figured out how to create SBSettings like shortcuts with an App Store application called Icon Project on non-Jailbroken iOS devices. This instantly became a huge hit amongst users, and when Apple patched the glitch Icon Project took advantage of in a future iOS update it left many disappointed.

Today Chronic Wire has discovered a way to gain access to advanced diagnostics on non-Jailbroken iOS devices thanks to .mobileconfig files he has released to the public. These configuration files are available for FaceTime, Bluetooth and Messages and when configured will allow users to enable logging sessions to help troubleshoot problems.

Hidden Debug iOS Settings

If you would like to activate these hidden debug menus on your iOS device then you can follow the instructions shown below…

Enable Hidden iOS Debug Settings

Step 1) – The first thing you will need to do is visit this page on your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad.

http://www.ijailbreak.com/how-to/enable-hidden-debug-settings-ios/

Step 2) – Next you will need to download and install the applicable .mobileconfig files below. To do this tap on a download link, tap the Install button, followed by the Install Now button and finally the Done button.

  • Download FaceTime debugging
  • Download Bluetooth debugging
  • Download Messages debugging

Note: You only need to install the ones that you plan on using; you do not need to install them all.

Step 3) – You will now find a Diagnostic Mode section in the Settings.app under the FaceTime/Bluetooth/Messages area.

Done! You have now enabled hidden diagnostics menus that may be useful for debugging certain iOS problems in the future.
