Here Is Why You Won’t Be Playing Any Nintendo Games On Your Smartphone Or Tablet Anytime Soon

If you have been wondering why Nintendo hasn’t brought over some of its games like Mario over to platforms like iOS and Android then you will be glad to hear Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has given the reason.

Why You Won't Be Playing Any Nintendo Games On Your Smartphone Anytime Soon

It isn’t that the company doesn’t see it as being a profitable move, but in the long run it would not be good for the future of the company.

If I was to take responsibility for the company for just the next one or two years, and if I was not concerned about the long-term future of Nintendo at all, it might make sense for us to provide our important franchises for other platforms, and then we might be able to gain some short-term profit.

However, I’m really responsible for the long-term future of Nintendo as well, so I would never think about providing our precious resources for other platforms at all.

And it makes sense. Porting games over to smartphones and tablets would remove one of the company’s pillar assets. Why would someone ever really want to buy hardware from the company again if they could get access to the same content on their existing smartphone/tablet?

Iwata also said “What I believe is that Nintendo is a very unique company, because it does its business by designing and introducing people to hardware and software – by integrating them, we can be unique. And because we have hardware and software developers in the same building, they stimulate each other.”

So that’s why you won’t by playing Nintendo games anytime soon on your smart devices.

So Nintendo is sort of like apple with a long tradition of designing hardware and software in the same building.

And Apple does the same thing with their software. They don’t port their best soft ( such as osx or iLife, iPhoto) to other platforms.

It’s not a problem for me as I can easily install an emulator app then download ROM files for the games.

Apple and nintendo is making a bad move..

Both Sucks in Big time! I don’t need to carry tons of stuff for each thing!

I dont see what the problem is here if you jailbreak your iphone you can get emulators and roms who the fuck posts this.

  • Thom Nguyen

I find it reasonable for Nintendo to do this. Honestly if Nintendo proprietary games were a must have, a NDS isn’t that much, nor is it a waste of money. Nintendo here is trying to play it out carefully, they intend to keep having a hardware market unlike Sega now, which has all turned to software and games.

Dude, not everyone can jailbreak plus this news is intended to the general public, for those with other platforms than iOS like the PS vita, or android etc. Plus last time i checked, emulators weren’t always responsive, or sometime could be glitchy in some roms.

Josh , How many % of iphone and ipad users actually will jailbreak their devices in the future? And jailbreak is dead aint it?

  • Joshua Jones Makaveli

I thought this was a jailbreak site I gues not. And I never had problems with emulators they always work with all the roms. And fuck android lol who the hell uses that virus software.

I don’t see why Nintendo couldn’t port older, classic titles over to other platforms and still retain the need to buy hardware for new content. I’d much rather play old Nintendo games on my smartphone than none at all and if I wanted new content I’d still buy the hardware to play it.

You’re a special kind of ignorant smartphone user aren’t you. Who uses Android? The dominant share of the smartphone market, that’s who!

  • Joshua Jones Makaveli

That’s new to me because everywhere I look I see an iphone.

  • Wagner

I undestand what he meant and it makes totally sense, if they do that, eventually they will destroy themselves and won’t release new hardwares never more.

    Well played joshua, well played.
