Remember all those disappointing moments when you couldn’t fit all your favourite songs on your iPod Touch, iPhone or iPad just because they were of higher bitrate and thus a larger size? Of course, you could convert all the higher bitrate music to 128 kbps and try to stuff all those tracks, but then you lose the quality of your music.

With iTunes 10.6, you can now convert higher bitrate music to 192 kbps or 256 kbps in AAC format, which is better quality than 128 kbps and also will still help you decrease your music libraries size. You get the option to convert them to lower bitrate i.e, 128, 192 or 256 kbps, when you connect your iDevice and fire up Settings on iTunes.

iTunes 10.6 Bitrate Conversions

However, if you like your music in super high quality and don’t want to compromise that, then you shouldn’t check this option. This is new in iTunes 10.6 and is a great new feature for those who plan to convert higher bitrate tracks to a lower bitrate on a regular basis. Obviously you will lose some quality, but then it also decreases the overall size of your library allowing you to store more songs.

Did you come across this tiny new feature in the latest version of iTunes? Have you and do you plan on using this option? Share your responses in the comments section below.
