Planetbeing Says Untethered iOS 6.0.2 Jailbreak Is Complete For The iPhone 5, It Is Just Missing A Few Pieces

Earlier today we broke a story of Pod2G essentially stating that the reports of the end of Jailbreaking were greatly exaggerated. Furthermore the new #weWantAnOpenIOS hashtag that Pod2G got trending on Twitter was not a sign of defeat from the French hacker, it was merely a wakeup call to try to get Apple to realize developers want better APIs that go above sandbox.

Now on a Reddit thread related to the matter, we have heard from none other than @Planetbeing. Who, for those of you who don’t know, seems to be the most active in developing the Untethered iOS 6 Jailbreak.

Yeah, I’m not really sure what all the doom and gloom is about. The fact is, I have an untethered iOS 6.0.2 JB running on my iPhone 5 right now. The reasons it’s not released are because 1. releasing it would burn an exploit we want to save for ourselves so we can always get in to look at new firmware and help JB in the future, 2. iOS 6.1 is coming very soon and will likely break a small part of it anyway, there’s no point in sacrificing the many bugs it won’t break.

Anyway, where there are 4+ bugs (that it took to get this to work), there’s gotta be one or two more so while jailbreaking is getting harder, reports of its death are highly exaggerated.

This is not stuff I want to say over Twitter with 140 characters because I’m afraid of starting some sort of riot, but I like the smaller /r/jailbreakcommunity more.

Some good news that has come out of this, is that we know iOS 6.0.2 has been Jailbroken and thus is safe to update to. Even better, it will be likely that Planetbeing and other developers will wait until iOS 6.1 to drop until they release anything, as there is no point burning bugs when a new firmware version is coming so soon. Another reason Planetbeing is holding off on releasing the Jailbreak is because he wants to find another bug so he does not have to give up one key exploit that himself and other developers use as a starting point for developing Jailbreaks. He further goes on to say…

[Pod2G] told me last night he looked into a couple of bugs (without much success) recently, after basically not being around since WWJC, so that’s cool. I doubt he wants to promise he’ll be around working on this full time however. I haven’t worked on any jailbreak stuff for a couple of months as well, not until basically I was flying back from 29C3 in Germany and realized/remembered I actually know about enough bugs to put together an entire untethered jailbreak (still unreleasable due to reasons I stated in my other comment here).

In case you needed more proof the Planetbeing definitely has a working iOS 6.0.2 Untethered Jailbreak, Saurik dropped by to get his word in.

I actually was working with pod2g (albeit with a worse headache than I’ve had in at least a year, so mostly as a “gdb test monkey”), and can thereby personally attest that he didn’t just say it, he actually did it.

It looks like the state of the iOS 6 untethered Jailbreak is looking up after all, this is the most positive news we have heard in a long time. As always, we will keep you guys updated when we heard more information, until that time let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.

    that’s mean i can update to 6.0.2?

  • Johannes Mertens

He didn’t say that, but from my point of view it seems to be safe to update.

  • Khalil Rizqalla

    I guess that’s a yes

  • Ben

    What about ipad 3???

  • Azharsaadat

Finally some good news, I haVe not updated to ios 6 till now, can’t wait for release. :)

  • Johannes Mertens

It’s pretty safe that the upcoming Jailbreak won’t be for 6.0 only.. this wouldnt make much sense. Also Dev Team said that there were no major Kernel Changes in 6.0.2. Also planetbeing is using 6.0.2 right now.

  • Thoufeeq

    Gud work guyzzz …

  • Dani Hayes

Still on iOS 5.1.1 until the release happens.

  • Nsho

does this mean they are gonna release the jailbreak after iOS 6.1 is released?

  • Alu Zeros

I have both an iphone 4s and a nexus 4, but I’m looking forward to seeing each respective device’s next major OS during the summer. Really would like ios to see better APIs and open up more and really concentrate on software functionality that people will use practically on a daily basis. For me, that will be a major deciding factor to get a iphone 5/5s or just stick keep the 4s.

    What abt the iPhone 4s

  • Francisnei Santos

    for all devices man

  • Francisnei Santos

i wish they release quick as well ;)

  • Francisnei Santos

nope that means that we must wait a lil more

  • Vasu Dhingra

A shorter way to say this: “Planetbeing Says Untethered iOS 6.0.2 Jailbreak Is Uncomplete”

  • meritu

Sorry that you will miss it, because you can’t wait

  • FuckApple

Will work on it anyways coz its the alien phone lol don’t unhabe teathered jb on it? Coz I do have on 6.0.1

  • Vasu Dhingra

is there an update of 6.0.2 will be available for iphone 4?

  • Ken

    Yaaaay! Almost there.

I feel like there aren’t enough people cheering them on, you know, as opposed to just complaining…

Anyway, does anybody know if it’s going to be a userland JB?
