Apple has released iOS 5 today with over 200 new features to look forward to. These features include iCloud integration, iMessage, Wireless syncing and so much more. With all of these new features one might ask why wouldn’t someone upgrade to the iOS 5 firmware? The obvious answer is people who currently have a jailbroken or unlocked iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad.
Thus, with the release of the official iOS 5 firmware comes the question – can I jailbreak the iOS 5 firmware?
Jailbreak Official iOS 5 Firmware
At this time we are waiting for the Dev-Team to give us confirmation on whether or not you can Jailbreak iOS 5. When we have this confirmation we will publish another article. If you currently rely on an unlock for your iPhone you will not be able to update to the official iOS 5 firmware without using a tool like Sn0wBreeze or the PwnageTool (which has not been updated yet).
How To Jailbreak Official iOS 5 Firmware
While we still do not have word that you can Jailbreak iOS 5 there is a possibility that it can be jailbroken with RedSn0w 0.9.9b4. If you are willing to take a risk, accomplishing the task of jailbreaking the official iOS 5 firmware might be a reality. What you will need to do is upgrade to iOS 5, download RedSn0w 0.9.9b4, manually select the iOS 5 GM firmware file and see what happens.
I will be testing out this method shortly (I will update this post with my results), but until that time only try this method to jailbreak iOS 5 if you are willing to take a risk.
Will There Be An iOS 5 Untethered Jailbreak?
Earlier this week we reported there is already an iOS 5 untethered Jailbreak ready. Unfortunately it will take some time to actually develop it into a workable solution for the public. Thus, my prediction is we will see an iOS 5 untethered Jailbreak in the next week or two. Meaning we will all have to bear with a tethered iOS 5 Jailbreak for the time being.
We will keep you guys updated. Please stay tuned…
Update #1: Jailbreaking the official iOS 5 firmware is possible using RedSn0w 0.9.9b4 or Sn0wbreeze v2.8 b8 (you need to select the official iOS 5 firmware). Click here for more information.
