The Apple TV 4.4.0 firmware generation was released alongside the iOS 5 firmware and adds numerous features to the Apple TV 2G such as such as NHL, WSJ, AirPlay Mirroring, and Photo Stream. Additionally, the Apple TV 2G 4.4.1 firmware was released yesterday to fix some bugs associated with the 4.4.0 firmware.
If you are a jailbreaker you will be glad to know that the FireCore Dev-Team have recently updated the Seas0nPass Jailbreaking tool to add support for Jailbreaking the Apple TV 2G tethered on the 4.4, 4.4.1 firmware. There is no untethered Jailbreak at this time for the 4.4.0, 4.4.1 firmware, and as this makes the Apple TV 2G Jailbreak more inconvenient the FireCore Dev-Team have wrote the following on their blog:
Should I update?
Currently the jailbreak for 4.4+ is tethered, which is a bit less convenient than an untethered version. If the features added in 4.4 excite you it may be worth updating; however, the previous 4.3 version will continue to be supported so updating is not required.
Which plugins are supported on 4.4 and 4.4.1?
Media Player (works)
Couch Surfer (works)
RSS Feeds (works)
XBMC (not working)
Plex (not working)
Remote HD (not working)
Rowmote (not working)
