Yesterday we told you that the FireCore Dev-Team mentioned the release of the Apple TV 2G 5.0 (iOS 5.1) Jailbreak and an updated version of aTV Flash (black) for the 5.0 firmware was just around the corner! It was unknown what “just around the corner” was referring to in terms of timing, but it looks like it meant they were essentially finished.
Today the FireCore Dev-Team have just released a new version of Seas0nPas, dubbed SeasonPass v0.8.3 to Jailbreak the Apple TV 5.0 firmware, as explained in a new post on their official blog. This new Apple TV 2G 5.0 (iOS 5.1) Jailbreak is tethered, meaning anytime your Apple TV loses power you will need to plug it back into your computer and re-run Seas0nPass. This should not be much of an issue however, because you should very rarely ever actually turn your Apple TV off.
To go along with this Apple TV 5.0 (iOS 5.1) Jailbreak the FireCore Dev-Team have also updated aTV Flash (black) to be compatible with the new UI (user interface) present in the 5.0 firmware. In case you are wondering which plugins are currently supported you can take a look at this compatibility list below…
- Couch Surfer (works)
- Last.fm (works)
- Maintenance (works)
- Media Player (works)
- NitoTV (works)
- RSS Feeds (works)
- Weather (works)
- Overflow (not working)
- Plex (not working)
- Remote HD (not working)
- Rowmote (not working)
- XBMC (not working)
So what are you waiting for? The Apple TV 5.0 firmware contains a variety of new features including movie purchases in iCloud, genius recommendations, screensaver photos and of course a new UI. It is definitely worth updating to, and if you can live with a tethered Jailbreak then you are all set! You can download Seas0nPass 0.8.3 for Mac OS X and Windows to Jailbreak the Apple TV 2G on the 5.0 (iOS 5.1) firmware by going to the iJailbreak Downloads Section or using on of the direct links shown below.
We will have a how to guide available for Jailbreaking your Apple TV 2G on the 5.0 (iOS 5.1) firmware in the near future. Until that time please stay tuned and leave any questions or further thoughts in the comments section below.
Note: No this version of Seas0nPass cannot Jailbreak the new 1080p Apple TV (Apple TV 3G).
