It has been some time since we have heard from hacker Pod2G and the all acclaimed Dream Team (consisting of MuscleNerd, P0sixNinja, PlanetBeing and of course Pod2G) about the Untethered A5 Jailbreak. It is no question that while a majority of people were satisfied when the A4 iOS 5.0.1 Untethered Jailbreak was released, there were still a lot of people still desperately waiting for an iPhone 4S and iPad 2 Untethered Jailbreak.
Although there has been no new official updates from Dream Team on the A5 Untethered Jailbreak. I thought it would be a good idea to provide a quick look into why the A5 Untethered Jailbreak is taking so long to be released, and where the Dream Team are (approximately) in development.
Why Has The iPhone 4S/iPad 2 Untethered Jailbreak Not Been Released?
The reason the A5 Untethered Jailbreak has not been released is because the exploit Pod2G used to inject the untethering files to the 4S and iPad 2 relies on having an official developer account. Thus, it would obviously not make sense to release the Untethered Jailbreak this way, as most people would not be able to take advantage of it. Apple would additionally release a new firmware version shortly after to patch the exploit before the Dream Team would have a chance to make a full public release of it.
Why Was The A4 Untethered Jailbreak Released Then?
The A4 Untethered Jailbreak was released before the A5 Untethered Jailbreak because they represent two very different bootroms (permanent code written on the microcontroller to control how the device operates). Even if Apple patches the A4 exploit used to Jailbreak the iOS 5.0.1 firmware, this should not effect the A5 Jailbreak that is currently being worked so hard on. Now, the reason the A4 Untethered Jailbreak was released before the A5 Untethered Jailbreak is because a permanent tethered bootrom exploit is already present (this is because all A4 devices are Jailbroken for life).
When Will The iPhone 4S/iPad 2 Untethered Jailbreak Be Released?
At this time there has been no official release date mentioned, as it has been noted numerous times on Twitter that there are currently sandbox issues present. With Pod2G working with other famous Jailbreak developers such as MuscleNerd and Planetbeing, however, we can hope for a release in the month of January. In fact, we could expect the iPhone 4S and iPad 2 Untethered Jailbreak as soon as this week, according to a fairly recent tweet by hacker Pod2G (explained in this post).
