URGENT: iPhone 3GS/iPod Touch 3G Owners Back Up your Blobs!

On June 20, 2010, by rorypiper

With the iOS 4 release right on our doorstep, it is imperative that you make sure your SHSH blobs are saved on Saurik’s server.

Why? Apple will stop signing iPhone OS 3.1.3, once iOS 4 is released, and you will not be able to get your blobs for the earlier OS after that time. This means, you will not be able to downgrade your firmware, if you happen to upgrade to iOS 4 by accident, and lose your jailbreak/unlock. Also, doing a fresh, official upgrade in iTunes, without saving your SHSH blobs from the previous firmware, could mean you may never be able to jailbreak again.

We have seen many jailbreak tools come along over the past 3 years, and there always seems to be a solution for each firmware, but better to be safe than sorry. This isn’t just for jailbreakers, either. Apple doesn’t allow you to downgrade to older firmwares, so if you need to do that at any point in time, jailbroken or not, you won’t be able to unless your SHSH blobs are saved on Saurik’s servers. There are new jailbreak tools waiting in the wings; we just have to wait for them.

The quickest and easiest way to back up your SHSH blobs to Saurik’s servers, is with iH8sn0w’s AutoSHSH. We wrote up a review and tutorial a while back, and we highly suggest you check it out.
