Did you know your iPhone or iPod Touch can play videos on your TV? Did you know Apple wants you to pay $50 to get a cable that lets you do such? Did you know you don’t need to? There are plenty of accessories on the market that allow you to play video out with iPods, but when plugged into the iPhone, display “This accessory is unsupported by iPhone”, and refuse to play video out. Or at least used to.
Resupported is a new tweak in Cydia developed by Phoenix3200 that’s a safe and cheap alternative to paying the Apple tax. It enables video out through many unsupported AV cables and devices, and it does not modify system files!
In addition, Resupported adds video playback support to many third-party applications, such as Hulu+, IMDB, VEVO, and more!
While no guarantees are made towards supporting a particular cable, as a general rule:
- Does it plug into the dock connector?
- Will audio play through it when connected to your device?
- Does it have a video output or a screen?
Notes:
- Auto-detection works only when audio is able to go out the dock cable under normal conditions. If you want to manually toggle video on/off, install Resupported SBSettings Toggle.
- Resupported is designed only for video playback, not to display your applications on a TV.
- Accessory warning messages may disappear.
- Resupported does NOT enable charging with cords that do not already charge your device.
What’s new in version 1.2.0:
- Beta support for third-party video playback (e.g. iFile, YourTube, and NBA League Pass).
- Preferences option for Composite/Component switching.
Note: NOT compatible with iOS 4 or iPad.
Resupported is available in Cydia via BigBoss repository for $1.99
