Pwnage Tool Updated to 4.0.1 Fixes iBooks Issue

In case you haven’t heard, there was an issue with the new Pwnage Tool, 4.0, breaking the iBooks app, and not letting you load your books. Well, The iPhone Dev Team has responded and released Pwnage Tool 4.0.1, that fixes this issue. Unfortunately, you will have to create another custom firmware and and do another restore. Our previous video tutorial still applies.

    What is “enable baseband update” used for?

    Pwnage Tool can preserve your baseband, if you need to unlock your iPhone, and there is no unlock for newer baseband. We are lucky right now, to have an unlock for all basebands since OS 3.0, so we don't need to worry about preserving the baseband, for the time being. You can go ahead and enable baseband update, then unlock with ultrasn0w.

    Thanks Rory… I read somewhere that people are having issues with WiFi after updating to OS4.. any news on that?

    Secondly, I need to unlock my phone to use with a different carrier.. are you aware if you are able to go into SSH and modify the carrier bundle to allow cellular data network settings?

    It is really easy to unlock the iPhone right now. When building your custom IPSW, make sure your use Expert mode, and when it comes to “Activate the phone”, make it is selected. Then after you do the restore, just install ultrasn0w, and your iPhone will be unlocked.

    Wifi not connecting to public places .. i connect to an access point at work which requires authentication (HTTP) once connected.. on os 4 it suggests it's connected by the bars on the top aren't showing up and when i go safari it says i need data to access site..

    any ideas?

    Does it make any difference if i want to restore as a new iphone or restore from backup?

    No. That happens after the firmware install. You can restore from back up.

    so many ways for a new jailbreaker to do it..i need an idiot proof step by step way of opening my 3gs on os 4.0.1.

    its easy if you have done it before but i've never attempted to. and above link at the top doesn't work,another hitch i've come across on many sites.. help please :-)
