How To: Install Android on iPhone 3G (iPhodroid)

On July 28, 2010, by Dusty

Plantebeing is the father of the Android on iPhone project, but Sergiomcfly, along with the help of the guys at iDroid, have streamlined the entire process.

iPhodroid is a simple easy to use loader that simply takes one click to install Froyo, an Android OS, on the iPhone 3G.

Download iPhodroid here.

In order to use iPhodroid, you need to have a 3G:

  • Running 3.1.2.
  • Jailbroken using Redsn0w
  • Have SSH enabled

Remember, if you downgrade your device you won’t be able to restore from a backup unless you upgrade to the version you backed up from.

When you’re ready to get started open iPhodroid and enter the necessary fields. (iPhone IP address, computer admin password and SSH password.)

Wait as Terminal runs the necessary commands. (It took me around eight minutes) When the installation is complete you’ll be prompted to put your phone in recovery mode.)

Now you’ve got two options:

  1. Click install to install OpeniBoot so can you can choose which OS you want boot when you start your phone
  2. Click Froyo to run Android

There you have it. Now you can install apps from the Marketplace and enjoy the Android experience on your iPhone.

If you want to remove Android simply run iPhodroid from your desktop and click install.
