How To: Grab Your iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad SHSH Blobs with AutoSHSH

With the latest jailbreak for OS 3.1.3 and OS 3.2 on the horizon, we have been warned by the experts to make sure we have our SHSH blobs saved, either locally, or with Saurik’s servers, in Cydia.

Earlier, we told you that iH8sn0w have release a great new tool, for Windows, that saves your SHSH to Cydia, and locally. Well, we thought we would give you the simple steps it takes to do this.

First off: why are we doing this again? Well, since OS 3.1.2, Apple started a process, where during restore, Apple servers looks for a specific signature from your device, to verify it is doing a “legal” restore. Saurik devised a way to save that signature to his servers, and redirect the request for signature there. Basically, if you want your new iDevice to be jailbroken, from here on, you need to have your SHSH backed up. This only affects iPad, iPhone 3GS, and iPod Touch 3rd gen, and probably every new iDevice, from this point on.

The reason that there is an urgency for you to do this now, is that it is expected that Apple close this new exploit right away, as there are sticklers for security. Once they fix it, a new firmware will be released. If you upate to the new firmware, you will lose the jailbreak, but if you have your SHSH backed up, you will be able to downgrade to 3.1.3 or 3.2, and re-jailbreak.

Let’s assume you’ve already downloaded AutoSHSH, like we told you to, earlier. Open it up. You’ll get a warning saying you must be connected to the internet, and connect only one iDevice at a time. Click OK.

You should now see a window with two buttons. One that grabs your SHSH, and one explaining how to enter recovery mode. You must have your device in recovery mode, for this to work. The easiest way I found to do this is, before connecting your device, make sure it is turned off. Then press and hold the home button, while connecting the USB. Keep holding the home button until you see the iTunes and USB logo, on your screen. Once your there, click the “Grab my SHSH Blobs Automatically”.

AutoSHSH will now search for a device in recovery mode, and automatically grab the SHSH blobs. I have blurred out my SHSH, in the screenshot below.

Next it will ask you for a save location. You’ll want to keep it somewhere where you won’t forget about it, and make sure the folder is labelled something obvious, like “iPad3.2SHSHBlobs”. Once you select the location, click OK, and AutoSHSH will save your file locally, and upload it to Saurik’s server.

You’re done! The Spirit jailbreak is expected to be released after tomorrow, sometime. It was originally thought that Spirit would be out on iPad 3G launch day, but there has been a delay. We’ll keep you updated, and we’ll be doing a jailbreak tutorial, once Spirit is released.
