AppSync for OS 3.2 Released

I’m going to start this post by saying, we do not condone piracy. As a budding app developer, myself, I realize the loss of revenue from piracy is hard an a major company, let alone a one man team working from his home.

That being said, occasionally, you will come across an app in the App Store that looks kind of interesting, but you’re just not sure you want to spend the money on it. This especially rings true for iPad apps, where a simple $.99 app, that used to be on the iPhone, is now $4.99 for the iPad. This hack, for jailbroken iPads, will allow you to preview these expensive apps, before spending your money on them. Once again, we do not condone piracy. If you download a pirated app that you really enjoy, please go buy it from the App Store.

The Hackulous team has been doing this for a while now, for iPhone and iPod Touch, and they have just updated their hacks for this to work on the iPad. AppSync for OS 3.2 has been released. This gives you the ability to install DRM free apps on your iPad.

On your iPad, open Cydia, and tap the Manage tab, at the bottom, and tap Sources. Now, tap the Edit button at the upper right, and then tap the Add button at the upper left. In the pop up, add this source: http://cydia.hackulo.us, and tap Add Source. You will get a warning, telling you this repository is distributing cracked apps. Tap Add Anyway, if you wish to continue.

Cydia will then update it’s list. Go back to sources and tap on the new one you just added. You see all they have to offer. Look for AppSync for OS 3.2, and download. When it is finished, reboot your iPad, and you’re ready to try out some DRM free apps.

So, now you’re probably saying, “Well, where can I get all these pirated apps?”. There’s a few options for you, but we’re going to try to hang on to a bit of morallity here, and let you search them out yourself. I won’t provide any links, but I’ll point you in a direction: if you’ve ever done any torrent downloading, you’ve probably got an idea where to go, already. Hackulous also offers a nice solution, but they have been highly criticised by the app develpoer community. It’s up to you.

Agree or disagree, but it’s all just my opinion. If you want more of my opinion, follow me on Twitter: @rorypiper
