How To: Jailbreak iOS 5, 4.3.5, 4.3.3, 4.2.10 On iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad With RedSn0w 0.9.9b1 [Windows]

Earlier today, as promised by MuscleNerd, the iPhone Dev-Team have released a new version of RedSn0w with some new and exciting features. Which range from auto ipsw detection to having the ability to save your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad’s SHSH blobs. As this new version of RedSn0w significantly changed the Jailbreaking process, we have decided to create a how to guide on Jailbreaking your iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad running the iOS 4.3.5, 4.3.3, 4.2.10 and iOS 5 beta series firmwares on the Windows operating system.

Note #1: RedSn0w 0.9.9b1 supports all iDevices except iPad 2 (which can be jailbroken on iOS 4.3.3 with JailbreakMe 3.0).

Step 1) - Download RedSn0w0.9.9b1 for Windows using the download mirror below or through the iJailbreak Downloads Section.

Download RedSn0w 0.9.9b1 (Windows)

Step 2) - Once you have downloaded RedSn0w 0.9.9b1 you will need to simply launch it by double clicking on the redsn0w.exe file in the RedSn0w folder you just downloaded.

Step 3) - With RedSn0w 0.9.9b1 up and running you will need to click the Jailbreak button if you are trying to Jailbreak the iOS 4 firmware generation.

If you are trying to Jailbreak any of the iOS 5 beta firmwares you will need to manually select it by going to click the Extras button > Followed by clicking the Select IPSW button. Upon clicking the Select IPSW button another window will appear where you will need to select your iOS 5 beta firmware.

Step 4) - Upon clicking the Jailbreak button or selecting your custom IPSW (depending on which iOS firmware you are trying to Jailbreak) you will come to a screen where you will need to put your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad into DFU mode. Read through and follow the instructions presented to you which is to plug in and power off your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad and click the next button.

Step 5) - When you click the next button you will need to follow the instructions presented to you to put your to put your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad into DFU mode.

  • Hold down Power (corner) button for 5 seconds.
  • Without releasing the Power button, also hold down the Home (bottom center) button along with the Power button for 10 seconds.
  • Without releasing the home button, stop holding down the power button for up to 15 seconds.

Step 6) – After you successfully enter DFU mode on your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad RedSn0w 0.9.9b1 will begin Jailbreaking your iDevice. DO NOT interrupt or use your computer during this time. When your iDevice is finished being Jailbroken it will reboot into a Jailbroken state. Congratulations.

Optional: Booting Tethered - If you are Jailbreaking any firmware version above the iOS 4.3.3 firmware (iOS 4.3.4, iOS 4.3.5, iOS 5 betas, Verizon iOS 4.2.9-4.2.10) you will have a tethered Jailbreak. Meaning in order for your iDevice to turn back on you will need to boot it using RedSn0w (this applies every time your iDevice looses power). To do this launch RedSn0w again and click the Extras Button > then click the Just boot button and you will simply need to put your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad into DFU mode again.

Note: Yes, you need to do this every time your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad looses power.

Upon following our how to guide you should now have a Jailbroken iPhone 4, 3GS, iPod Touch, iPad running the iOS 5, 4.3.5, 4.3.3, 4.2.10 firmware with RedSn0w 0.9.9b1. Hi,

I’ve got a 3g with 6.15 baseband. It was ok till i restored it to original parameters. Since, it is stucked on a black screen (no apple, no emergency screen)

Itunes see it in dfu mode and the pwned dfu can’t pass a 1600 or 1601
error when I try to restore it on a custom or regular ipsw 4.1 or 4.2.1
    with or without baseband update…

New redsnow 0.9.9 says it doesn’t support this 3g yet… Tried a lot of things for hours without success !

    Please ! HELP ME !

Thanks a million and congratulations for your helpful work

I am currently Jailbroke with redsnow 0.9.8b7a for iPhone4 verizon 4.2.10 and honestly, i was hesitant at first with the tethered jailbreak (having to do wasn’t a choice, apple had to replace phone that cam loaded with 4.2.10) but i like it better than the unthered jailbreak i had on 4.2.8 with Snowbreeze. Other than have to plug it in to boot everytime sucks, especially if yoour not around youir computer with the program, but overall is works alot better. Although nothing beats Greenpoisen for 4.2.1 that i use for my Ipod touch 2g.

My question is if i download the Redsnow 0.9.9b1 can i use that to still boot? Or is there a way to upgrade or should i even bother till iOS 5 is released. And what program does everybody use for back up of sources and packages? I tried xbackup but it didn’t always load the packages and i was still out a day of work to get my phone the way i wanted it with all my tweaks and such

I didn’t have the same exact problem but for some reason no matter what or what instruction i followed i kept getting errors, i think it was mainly 3503 but spat a different one everytime and no matter what i did i couldnt get the fucker to restore on my itunes. So i tried i did it on different computer and it worked fine. I’d try a differnt computer and see if that works.

First of all, im a noob to this.
I have an iphone 4 jailbroken  and unlocked in the untethered mode under 4.3.3. Since the last release of the ios5, i wanted to update the frimware. but the problem is, redsn0w jailbreak only provides the tethered mode. My question is, if i jailbreak my mobile under the tethered now, when the untethered jailbreak is awailable, can i switch to that ?

  • Jrskkt
