I am fairly sure we have told you something along the lines of this in the past, but this time the possibility of a Cydia package untethered jailbreak could be a reality. It should be no surprise that you can currently jailbreak the iOS 4.3.1 firmware tethered, but an untethered iOS 4.3.1 jailbreak is unfortunately still in the works. In fact Comex recently tweeted that his last kernal exploit that was going to be used to jailbreak the iOS 4.3.1 firmware untethered was mysteriously patched by Apple. Which could mean it was somehow leaked to Apple. Regardless of this, hacker xpl0n1c released a quick video showcasing an untethered iOS 4.3.1 jailbreak on his iPod Touch 4G.

If you read his YouTube video description you will find that he used Sn0wbreeze to perform a tethered jailbreak; he then used his own untethered exploit (which was applied through SSH) to completely untether his iPod Touch 4G. Before you get your hopes up on a new jailbreaking tool being released, he states that he does not plan on ever creating one. He may however create a Cydia package that once installed could untether the iOS 4.3.1 firmware (after first being jailbroken through a jailbreaking tool like the PwnageTool or Sn0wbreeze).

If you check out the YouTube video above then you will see that this is in fact legit, and an untethered jailbreak should not be too far off now. Whether this untethered jailbreak will come in the form of a Cydia package, or whether devs will simply use this exploit and integrate them into existing jailbreaking tools is another question all together. We will keep you updated on the status of the iOS 4.3.1 jailbreak but until then please stay tuned…
