The developer of Sn0wbreeze, iH8sn0w, will be adding a new feature to his windows pwnage clone, in his next upcoming sn0wbreeze update. This feature will be BaseBand Preservation Mode, and it will simply allow you to update to a new iOS firmware while preserving your baseband. The interesting thing about this feature is that it will not jailbreak or unlock your iDevice along the way. This could be useful if you simply want to update to the new iOS4.2.1 firmware, and leave the option of unlocking your iPhone still available. As updating to the stock iOS4.2.1 firmware will also update your iPhone to a baseband version that is not unlockable by ultrasn0w.
If you have not heard of Sn0wbreeze before, as we said above, Sn0wbreeze is simply the windows version of the PwnageTool. Instead of automatically jailbreaking your iDevice, like RedSn0w and GreenPois0n, Sn0wbreeze creates custom IPSW’s, which you then restore to your iDevice via iTunes. When you create a custom IPSW, you can specify advanced settings such as custom root partitions, pre-installed applications and much more! While there is no ETA on this new version of Sn0wbreeze 2.2, we will keep you updated if we hear anymore from iH8sn0w.
