Learn How to Install MobileTerminal for up to the iOS 4.3.1 Firmware! [Version 520-1]

On March 27, 2011, by Jaden

I decided to boot up the Linux computer today and add a new and updated version of MobileTerminal that is compatible with up to the iOS 4.3.1 firmware in to the iJailbreak repository. This new and updated version of MobileTerminal doesn’t add much feature wise, except that it is more staple and includes some bug fixes to fix issues such as gestures not saving when closing MobileTerminal. If you are interested in this new and updated version of MobileTerminal please head on over to our repository!

If you want to install MobileTerminal to your iPod Touch, iPhone or even iPad, running the  iOS 4 up to the iOS 4.3.1 firmware, follow these easy steps presented to you below…

Step 1) – The very first thing you are going to need to do (if you haven’t already) is add our official repository to your iDevice. You can do this now by adding the repository listed below…

Note: Our repository is compatible with Cydia 1.1.x

Unsure on how to add a Cydia Souce? You can add a source by going into Manage > Sources > Edit > Add. Here is our repo URL:

http://www.ijailbreak.com/repository/

Step 2 ) – If you already have a version of MobileTerminal installed on your iDevice you will need to remove it before installing MobileTerminal 520-1! Do this now by going into Manage > Packages > MobileTerminal > Modify > Remove.

Once you have removed MobileTerminal from your iDevice (if you already had a previous version installed), you will need to simply go into the iJailbreak source ( Manage > Sources > iJailbreak.com ), and once you are inside the iJailbreak source you will see MobileTerminal within the many other packages we have in our repository. When you find the MobileTerminal package, click it and install it to your iPod Touch, iPhone or even iPad.

Step 3) - Once MobileTerminal has succesfully installed you can launch MobileTerminal from your Springboard. When MobileTerminal is up and running you will see a command line interface presented to you.

Just like older versions of MobileTerminal, if you click the italic i icon on the right hand side of the screen you will be presented with a few configurable options.

These configurable options include Shortcode menus, and gesture controls. Two very powerful features that will make your MobileTerminal experiance so much better. An error with older versions of MobileTerminal was these gestures and shortcuts now saving after you exit MobileTerminal. This bug is now fixed in version 520-1!

If you are new to MobileTerminal you may be wondering what exactly you can do with it. Well presented to you below are a couple of things that MobileTerminal is capable of…

Hopefully this tutorial allowed you to once again use MobileTerminal. Let us know your thoughts on MobileTerminal 520-1 in the comments section below…

    There’s a jailbreak for 4.3.1?

  • http://twitter.com/JadenEllett Jaden

We have yet to provide coverage for this jailbreak because it is unstable but you can actually use an unofficial version of the PwnageTool to jailbreak the iOS 4.3.1 firmware. The point of this how to though was more to remind people that this version of Mobile Terminal will work for all iOS firmware versions.

After installing it and checking it worked, Cydia (1.1.1) constantly lists it as having an update available.

  • Unklbuck

    I get that too.

  • Randyg

I agree, doesn’t play nice with Cydia, wants to be upgraded.

  • _ernie

I also have the problem with upgrade. Can you fix that?

  • Fromjosh

I got that too. I just went ahead and used it to reset the root and mobile password and then removed it from my iPhone. Not sure why the update keeps getting stuck like that.

Just did an untethered jailbrake for 4.3.1 and like everyone else this doesn’t work with Cydia as it constantly shows it needs to be updated. Anyone have a working source? Would love to be able to have one that shows real updates but if not I guess I can just download and install manually.

this app is the “must have” for advanced users who need to take advantage of the low level commands. keep the good work! But one question I have is why some repositories allow four terminal sessions and this one just two… not a big deal, but sure could be a great improve to the one refered here…

THX… this is great .. i have worked to install this terminal all day long….nothing work`s… until i have found this…..THX…
