Skype for iOS just received a brand new update, which brings about plenty of new features. Recently, Microsoft added the ability to sign in to Skype using your Windows Live ID and this new update brings that to the iOS app.
The latest version of Skype for iOS gets the ability to sign in using your Microsoft account and merge all your accounts. This is a pretty cool feature for everyone who has a Messenger or Hotmail ID, as you can chat with all your contacts. You can also merge contacts from Outlook.com. Of course if this is the first time you’re using Skype on your iOS device, you can easily create a new account from within the app. There is no need to first create a Skype ID on your desktop.
Apart from that, a few other improvements can be found in the app. You can now edit an instant message by simply tapping and holding it. While typing a message you can choose emoticons from the button next to send. Devices with a Retina display, such as the iPhone 4/4S/5, iPad 3rd/4th generation and iPod Touch 4th/5th generation get animated emoticons just like on the desktop app. Saved phone numbers can be edited right from the dial-pad. You’ll also find that the app is faster than the previous version and functions very well. As usual, there are bug fixes and other performance improvements.
Skype for iOS version 4.2 is currently available in the App Store for free. Update to the latest version and tell us what you think of it.
