Earlier in the week we told you guys that Instagram would be holding a media event to possibly unveil physical photo printing. And in New York city today Instagram did indeed unveil something new, but it wasn’t actually photo printing, rather Instagram Direct.
Instagram Direct is a new feature which will allow you to share private photos and videos with friends and family. It will be integrated directly into the existing Android and iOS apps.
There is no question that Instagram is the world’s most popular media sharing network with over 150 million users a month and with this new feature, similar to SnapChat in a way, it is likely to attract an even larger user base.
The way Instagram Direct works is you still capture photos and videos the same way, but you switch to the new Direct tab at the top of the screen and then select up to 15 people to share your media with and only those that get it can see it. These people receiving this media can then like and comment in private.
You can find more on Instagram Direct through this FAQ.
Version 5.0 of Instagram is now available to download from Google and iOS.
