Whether you’re an iOS user or an Android fan, you most likely love playing games on your handset. A new study, however, shows that while gaming has increased greatly on both platforms, one platform is dominating the other when it comes to developer revenue. According to the research firm Newzoo, the average iOS gamer spends around five times more than the average Android user. The firm had quite an extensive amount of data as well, looking at iOS and Android downloads and 17,000 survey participants.

Temple Run iOS, Android

The study revealed that iOS accounts for much more revenue than its competitors. While only 28% of mobile gamers are on an iPhone, an impressive 60% of tablet gamers play on an iPad. Together, they make up a stunning 84% of all mobile revenue.

Interestingly, a whopping 91% of all gaming revenue from both iOS and Android comes from in-app purchases. It’s obvious that the ease of use and seamless purchase experience is what attracts gamers to spend so much money. Newzo CEO Peter Warman stated:

“When analyzing Apple’s successful monetization, there is one dominant factor outside of differences in audience demographics and preferences: Apple requires users to connect their credit card information directly to their account, thus creating a seamless purchase experience.”
