Learn How To Get Music Of Your iPhone Or iPod Touch For FREE!

The problem with the iPhone and the iPod Touch is that you cannot access its files like you can on the iPod Video or iPod Nano. This means taking music off your iPodTouch/iPhone will require an outside application. Most users complain that all these outside applications cost money and there are no easy to use free programs available. This is definitely not the case, and throughout this post I will show you how to get Music off your iPod Touch or iPhone using an easy to use application called SharePod.

Step 1) - The first thing you are going to need to do is Download SharePod to your Desktop. The great thing about SharePod is that it is free and in most cases it is as functional as most of the paid programs out there.

Download SharePod [Direct Link]

Step 2) - With SharePod now downloaded you are going to navigate to your Desktop and extract SharePod to your Desktop. Once SharePod is extraced to your Desktop you are going to leave the folder alone for now and continue to step 3.

Step 3) - Before you launch SharePod you are going to now plug in your iPhone or iPod Touch into your computer. Once you plug in your iPhone or Ipod Touch into the computer iTunes should now pop up. What you want to do now is exit iTunes and make sure all iTunes related windows are closed because SharePod cannot function with iTunes running.

Step 4) - Now that iTunes is not running you are going to need to go back into the SharePod Folder that you extracted to your desktop earlier and double click on the SharePod.exe to start the program. **Note for Windows Vista users the program will ask you to grant it administrative access, simply hit accept to this request.

Step 5) - With SharePod now up and running you should see all the songs on your iPhone or iPodTouch listed in front of you and many other options like backup, copy and much more. The beauty with SharePod is now you are free to take individual songs off your iPodTouch of iPhone or Backup your whole Music library (including Videos) with a few clicks of a button. You can also transfer songs to your iPhone or iPod Touch just like you can through  iTunes…

Copying Music to your Computer

Copying Music to your Computer is extremely easy to do with SharePod. To Copy Music to your computer simply highlight the selected tracks that you want to copy to your computer and then hit the Copy to PC button. Once you click the Copy to PC Button another window will appear asking you where you want to copy the selected songs to. Change this to whatever directory you want by clicking the … Button on the right side of the application. The next option you have is how you want your Songs to be organized when SharePod takes them off your iPhone or iPod Touch and puts them on your Computer. If you look at the options you have, you can either organize your Music into folders or you can transfer them just as song files; the choice is yours. When you are ready to begin hit the ok button and the transfer will begin! If you want to take individual songs off your iPhone or iPodTouch you can also just drag them to your Desktop or to a folder of your choice.

A Full Backup

If you want to backup everything on your iPhone or iPod Touch including Music and Videos we can do this by clicking the Backup iPod button. When you click this button another window will appear asking you where you want to backup your iPhone or iPod Touch to. Simply select where you want to backup your iPhone or iPod Touch to by clicking the … Button on the right side of the application. The next option you have is the exact same as what was explained above; how you want your Songs to be organized. If you look on the options that you have you can either organize them into folders or you can transfer them just all as song files; the choice is yours. When you are ready to begin hit the ok button and the Backup will begin!

Adding Music to your iPhone or iPod Touch

If you would rather add music to your iPhone or iPod Touch through SharePod then you can do this by clicking the Copy to iPod Button. Once you click the Copy to iPod button another window will appear where you can click either add file or add folder to select the songs you wish to  transfer to your iPhone or iPod Touch. Simply click either one of the two buttons and select which files you want to transfer to your iPhone or iPod Touch and then click the ok button.

Step 6) - Now that you have learned how to use SharePod to Backup or Transfer Songs to your Computer and even how to transfer songs to your iPhone or iPod Touch, what you may want to do now is load your Songs back onto iTunes. You can do this now by closing SharePod and opening iTunes back up. Simply navigate to the top toolbar and click File then Add Folder to Library and once this button is clicked you will have the option to select which folder you want to import. Simply click the folder that you backed your songs to and this will now load your songs that you took off your iPhone or iPod Touch and load them back onto iTunes.

  • TooManyiTunesMachines?

The only songs that showed up as being able to be backed up are a few freebies that came from somewhere other than iTunes. The other hundred songs aren’t able to be backed up. My iTunes account has 5 machines licensed now and the iPhone is machine 6. Is that the problem?

None of my songs are recognized by SharePod (latest version). My iPod is jailbroken, and some songs are *unofficially* obtained. Is this the cause?
