Apple’s App Store Saw Around 20 Billion Downloads In 2012, Tops 40 Billion All Time
Apple’s App Store did very well last year and processed over 1 million apps overall. Currently, the App Store boasts about 775,000 apps, of which about 300,000 are made just for the iPad. The company just announced today, that the App Store has crossed over 40 billion app downloads.
In a Press Release, Apple stated that of the 40 billion downloads, about 20 billion were in 2012. The App Store also saw record-breaking downloads in the month of December. Apparently, over 2 billion apps were downloaded in December alone. Developers who contributed to iOS app development, made over 7 billion dollars in total. Eddy Cue, Apple’s SVC of Internet Software and Services stated:
“It has been an incredible year for the iOS developer community. Developers have made over seven billion dollars on the App Store, and we continue to invest in providing them with the best ecosystem so they can create the most innovative apps in the world.”
The iPhone and iPad sales were also very strong in 2012, thus around 500 million users have active App Store accounts. Apple’s App Store is now available in over 155 countries around the world.
