Google July 24th Event Recap: New Nexus 7, Android 4.3 And Chromecast TV Dongle

Last week we told you that Google would be holding an event on July 24th “Please join us for breakfast with Sundar Pichai” and that it was expected the search engine giant would be giving a preview of Android 4.3 along with unveiling the new Nexus 7.

Well sure enough Google’s Sundar Pichai hosted breakfast today and lets just say it was one exciting breakfast.

For starters Google indeed announced the new 7-inch Nexus 7 tablet that is thinner, lighter and has a new 1920×1200 True HD display. Its powered by a 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 Pro, which is 80% faster than its predecessor, and will come in a 16GB, 32GB and 64GB model.

Just what operating system will the tablet be running… you might ask!

Well it will actually run the newly announced Android 4.3.

Android 4.3 includes support for Bluetooth smart, multi-user profiles, textbooks for GooglePlay and even the Google Play Games app. This is of course a direct competitor to Apple’s game center with features like cloud syncing, multiplayer gaming and much more.

Surprisingly Google also unveiled what they are calling the Chromecast dongle. This dongle that plugs into your TV’s HDMI port allows you to stream and mirror content from a tablet, smartphone or computer. It is even compatible with iOS Devices. The best part about the dongle though? It only costs $35.

Google definitely made an impact with what they announced today and the new Nexus 7 is definitely going to give the iPad Mini some competition. What do you think of Google’s announcements? Drop us a line in the comments.
